Learn in 1 minute how to charge your EV
Find the right charging station
Finding a charging station at your preferred location is easy with the evpass app. Using the filter, you can see all charging stations that are compatible with your electric vehicle.
As a member of our EXPLORER community, you can view all partner roaming stations, giving you access to a much broader network. All you need to do is tick the roaming box in your browser or use the corresponding filter in the app.
Information
Details on the charging capacity of electric charging stations relate exclusively to the respective station and should be understood as guide values. These do not take into account additional specifications of the charging station manufacturer or the charging capacity that can be achieved by the vehicle's internal charger and charging technology.
Charging apps frequently display the manufacturer's specifications for the electric charging station irrespective of the actual configuration of the station by the manufacturer or the infrastructure provided by network operators. Due to possible limitations that may occur, in particular of a technical nature, the capacity specified by the charging station manufacturer or the network operator may not be available in full.
How to connect your electric vehicle
Pull up to the desired charging station. Connect the plug that’s compatible with your EV into the charging socket of the vehicle. On some EVs, the display will indicate that the charger has been connected successfully.
Please note: Many electric vehicles lock the plug in place for reasons of safety. Refer to the manufacturer’s manual to find out how to release the plug.
Starting and ending the charging process using evpass
To start the charging process, you have the choice of using either the RFID card, the evpass app, or Scan, Pay & Charge (via the QR code). Follow the steps below to start and end the charging of your electric vehicle.
RFID card
- Hold your RFID card up to the specified area of the charging station. This will be indicated by an “RFID” or will show an RFID symbol.
- Your electric vehicle will be charged until the maximum capacity has been reached. Charging will then stop automatically.
- If you want to manually end the charging session, hold your RFID card against the RFID card reader until you see a confirmation on the screen that the charging session has ended.
- Disconnect the plug from your electric vehicle. You can now continue your journey.
evpass app
- Start your charging session with the evpass app. Enter the charging station that you want to use and scroll down to plug types.
- Click on “Charge” next to the plug that you have connected to your electric vehicle.
- Your EV will be charged to the desired charge level.
- If you want to manually end the charging session, go to the current charging session displayed on the evpass app. Once there, click on “Stop”.
- Disconnect the plug from your electric vehicle. You can now continue your journey.
Scan, Pay & Charge (QR)
- If you do not have an evpass account, you can use the Scan, Pay & Charge function. To do so, scan the QR code with your smartphone.
- Choose the "Digital payment" option and specify the maximum amount that you would like to pay. An estimate of the charged kilowatt-hours will be displayed for the amount specified.
- Choose your preferred method of digital payment (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay or Twint).
- Keep the browser window open in case you choose to end the charging session manually. If you have already closed the browser window, it is also possible to end the charging process via your electric vehicle (please refer to the vehicle handbook).
Please note: The actual amount to be paid is calculated at the end of the session on the basis of charged kilowatt-hours. Any necessary adjustments will be made within a few days. You can find more information on our Support page.
- If you do not end the charging session manually, it will end automatically as soon the specified maximum amount is reached.
- You can then disconnect the plug from your electric vehicle and continue your journey.
